IAC Dinner, May 14, 2024 - Speaker: Tim Sparks

Our March meeting is on Tuesday, 12 March 2024. The venue is VFW Post 5864. The address: 1842 Veterans Way, Greenwood, IN 46143. It is just east of I-65. As usual, the start time is 6 pm. The post has a well-stocked bar with reasonable prices. The cost is still $25 per member/ $30 per guest.

Our speaker is Tim Sparks and he will be sharing some of his flying stories with us, including his brief appearances in both of the Top Gun movies.  Tim has a decorated Navy career and then flew with FedEx after the Navy.

January 11, 2011 Meeting: Dave Baranek, Top Gun, F-14

The Indianapolis Aero Club, welcomes Dave Baranek.  Dave will be sharing his experiences during his 20 year Navy career.  A better explanation of what we can expect is shared in his biography on his website:

... He enjoyed a successful and satisfying 20-year career in the Navy, starting with assignments to F-14 Tomcat squadrons and the elite Topgun training program, and later assignment to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the US 7th Fleet. At one point, he commanded an F-14 Tomcat fighter squadron, responsible for nearly 300 people and 14 aircraft worth about $700 million.

While serving as a Topgun air-to-air combat instructor in 1985, he had the unusual experience of flying aerial sequences used in the film "Top Gun," starring Tom Cruise and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson. He also served as a dialogue advisor on the project, and took some of the few available photographs of the movie's black F-5 fighters in flight. ...
