Our November speaker:
Jim Olivi is a computer programmer and networking engineer. He holds a Masters degree from DePaul University, Chicago and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois.
Jim has been interested in history, especially the history of the first half of the 20th century. He has read about the causes of the First and Second World Wars and the aftermath of those wars. He got interested in this era because of his late uncle, Lt Col Fred J Olivi, USAF, who was a co-pilot on the B-29 “Bockscar” on August 9, 1945.
Jim accompanied his uncle to various air shows, where Lt Col Olivi spoke about his role while assigned to the 509th Composite Bombardment Group, the US Army Air Force unit tasked with delivering the atomic bombs. Jim and his uncle were inducted into the Commemorative Air Force at one of these events.
Jim also holds a pilot’s license with ratings in single- and multi-engine ATP and commercial sailplane. He flew as co-pilot in the CAF’s C-47 and JU-52.
